Winter is notorious for causing wear and tear on your car, but summer can be just as brutal. The increase in temperatures during the summer can be detrimental to many of the systems in your car. If your car gets too hot the engine could overheat, your brakes could give out or your battery could die. That is why it is so important to check these systems in your car before heading out on the road:

Check your Car’s Fluids
It is important to make sure that the fluids in your car are regularly maintained. You should always make sure to have your oil changed regularly and make sure you have enough wiper fluid. But the most important fluid that should be checked regularly in the summer is your coolant or anti-freeze. Cars are especially prone to overheating in the summer, which is why there are cooling systems in cars.

But if you have to sit in traffic or leave your car out in the sun for extended periods of time, then your car could overheat anyway leading to catastrophic damage to your cooling system. The summer heat can lead to cracks in hoses that will leak out coolant, causing your car to overheat. ...
... In order to make sure that your car isn’t leaking coolant, check under your car. If you see a puddle of coolant under the car then that means you have a crack in your car’s cooling system, and you need to get this fixed right away. Low coolant levels in a car can also lead to your car overheating in the summer. If you have low coolant levels then your cooling system cannot cool your car properly, leading it to overheat. That is why it is so important to check your coolant levels in summer. If your cooling system has cracks in it or you are already running low on coolant then your car will overheat, which can lead to expensive repairs.

Check Your Car’s Brakes
Another fluid you should check is your brake fluid. Summer temperatures can heat up your brake fluid rendering it ineffective and making it dangerous to drive your car. If your brake fluid is black and not clean looking that means it is no longer good and needs to be replaced.

It is also important to check your brake pads during the summer. Summer often marks a time to travel during the weekends or taking longer road trips. Unfortunately a lot of people are travelling during the summer, leading to stop-and-go traffic jams. The consistent stopping and starting that traffic jams can create can wear down your breaks. That is why before you head out on a trip this summer you should check your brake pads. If your pads look worn down or if while breaking you hear a grinding noise then it is time to have your brake pads replaced. Ignoring worn down brake pads can lead to extensive damage to your brakes, or worse an accident. Before heading out on the road this summer make sure to have your brakes checked.

Check your Car’s Battery
Summer heat, like the cold temperatures in the winter, can lead to battery corrosion. That is why it is so important to check your battery during the summer. Too much corrosion will lead the battery to disconnect to the charges, making it harder to start your car or even making your car require a jump start to get started. The higher temperatures in the summer can also cause your battery to overcharge. This will shorten the life of your battery, which may require you to jumpstart your car or even buy a new battery.

Checking your car battery in the summer is a smart way to ensure that you don’t get stranded somewhere with a dead battery. Because it can be hard to tell sometimes if your battery is dying, make sure to have it checked regularly, especially in the summer when hotter conditions can cause your battery to die.

Summer conditions can cause wear and tear on several components of your car. That is why it is important to have your car checked up regularly during the summer. By checking your car’s coolant, brakes and battery you can ensure that you will have an enjoyable, worry-free summer.
