For most states, you need to pass four out of five tests from the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE). Once licensed, chiropractors need up to 12 to 50 hours of continuing eduction per year. Also, you can obtain postdoctoral training and specialize in different areas such as chiropractic neurology, sports medicine, pediatrics, nutrition, rehabilitation, and radiology.
Chiropractors are mostly self-employed. There are those though that are employed by other chiropractors or practice with other chiropractors at a hospital. The average pay for an employed chiropractor is $67,200 per year. Moreover, there is a great outlook for employment.
Because of the growing need for alternative health care, chiropractic is expected to grow in the years to come. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of chiropractors is expected to grow by 28% up until the year 2020, more than the average employment rate for most occupations.
