Computers Contribute To Environmental Pollution
Destroyed completely, in Second World War, City of Rotterdam has now become the center of economic development. It is Holland’s second biggest city and world’s busiest port with vast complex of petro chemical plants. On the other hand, it gushes out fumes –hydrocarbons and sulphur dioxide—creating lung disease. The highest number of death occurs from bronchitis in Rotterdam alone. To deal with this serious problem, the city has launched the world’s most sophisticated, fully-automated, air-pollution warning system; it consists of electric sniffers which monitor sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere. If the SO level rises, the computer sounds an alarm and an electronic map detects the polluting plant. If the weather condition indicates pollution build-up in the area, the computer gives warning to the plant manufacturer to cut down waste emissions. But this system is not enough to reduce pollution from the world. Electromagnetic waves emitted from electronic equipment constantly affect our health in many ways. Computer work becomes stressful when damage to brain and nervous system is inflicted. Even microwave radiation is ...
... adverse to health. The experts have already shown concern of possible brain cancer from overuse of cellular phones. Chemical pollution is continually damaging our environment. It has already damaged the ozone layer! Some of these pollutants made holes in the ozone-layer that used to protect us from lethal UV radiation that has caused significant increase in skin-diseases and cancer.Energy is produced mainly by burning fossil fuel, which pollutes our environment. Energy is also produced by nuclear reactors. It is said that,”too much of anything is bad,” so does over-usage of computer. We know that radiation is emitted from computer monitor and this electromagnetic radiation from monitor is hazardous. Especially children, in this computer age, must be protected from these harmful rays, to protect their immune system. The air we breathe in is polluted with smog rich oxides of carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, lead and other metals combined with poisonous chemicals. Many pollutants cause respiratory diseases, allergies and infections. To protect children from eye strain and infection, we must limit their use of computers. PCs, refurbished laptops of used computers, internet mobile or cheap computers: they must be advised to stop the excessive use of computers. It is a world-wide acceptance that computers created a great revolution in modern times. Computers can store and manipulate data with astonishing speed. The result is evident in everyday life, at home, work-place, medicine, education, agriculture, army, aviation, commerce, transportation, games, business, communication, and advertising industries. It has helped to make complicated systems for diverse applications. We have now computer-controlled weapons, special effects in films that have tremendously changed our life-styles. The basic advantage of computers is their ability to store data. They have trillions of facts in their memory. Just look for any information and they will present it before you almost instantly with incomparable speed and efficiency. Huge development in technology has given a much faster pace of life. Technology requires increasing amount of energy for the production of electricity which runs our entire systems, mainly, computers, under discussion.
