Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese series which is created and written by Akira Toriyama. It had 519 chapters in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1995 which were later published in 42 tankobon. These 42 tankobon were animated ad broadcasted in Japan from 1986 to 1996. It is based on the classical Chinese novel ‘Journey to the West’. It was directed by Yashuiro Nowatari.

The series is all about the adventures of the protagonist Goku, who is seen getting training in martial arts from Master Roshi to explore the world and to fight back in World Martial Arts Tournament from his childhood to adulthood. He look for seven mystical orbs which as also famous as Dragon Balls. These balls can muster a wish-granting dragon all together. Goku make many pals to fight back to all the varieties of villains who came across his mission to find Balls. Goku befriends with Bulma who is a teenage girl. He meets his older brother Raditz and he reveals him that they both are part of extinct extraterrestrial race called Saiyans and he has been sent here to conques the planet. Later when he refuses his offer he found him dead and then he is transformed ...

The manga series receive a license to release English-language in North America through Viz Media, by Gollancz Manga in Australia, Chuang Yi in Australia and New Zealand. These animated series were licensed by Funimated Entertainment to release it in English-language in United States. But in 2002, its all right to produce American-made action film “Dragon ball Evolution” where taken by 20th Century Fox as it was negatively received by critics and fan club.

It is totally grounded on Weekly Shonen Jump’s philosophy which includes friendship, struggle and victory. The series have turned its heart warming mode to action mode and the lead go through certain fights, defeat their challengers and to learn lessons.

Toei Animation declared that a revised version of Dragon Ball Z will be aired as series 20th anniversary celebrations. It premiered on Fuji TV in Japan on April 5, 2009 with a new name of Dragon Ball Kai, which was aired on Nicktoons on May 24, 2010. It was also broadcasted on The CW’s and Toonzai. Funimation released bilingual Region 1 DVD and Blu-ray box set. The Nicktoons and Toonzai have aired the series’ musical store which has featured original Dragon Ball Z background music with uncut home video version.

The programme was named as the 78th best animated serial as per IGN’S Top 100 Animated Series. Wizard Magazine listed the show as 50th greatest cartoon in Top 10 Greatest Cartoon’s list. Dragon Ball Kai received 11.3 % ratings. It is the highly populates in many countries which is giving a hand in convincing Japanese to get Western culture.
