Having A Heap Of Old Records Is Adilemma For Any Music-loving Minimalist. Records Take Up A Load Of
USB turntables plug straight into any computer with a USB connection fitted - pretty much every computer made within the past 7 years. From here the music from the record is easily transferred to the computer's hard drive. Next it is organized and managed by a specific music program, such as iTunes, or recorded onto CD. Most USB turntables will work equally as well with PCs or Macs.
Unlike earlier transfer systems, a USB turntable and a computer are really all you need- no additional converter or expert knowledge is required! In addition to recording records to computer file, many USB equipped turntables also offer a line level input. This allows other sources, such as a cassette deck, to be plugged into the USB-equipped turntable and for the output then to be recorded onto the computer's hard drive.
In short, the USB turntable becomes a hub through which you can record music from all your old analogue sources onto digital computer files. Whether its cassette, reel to reel or even 8-track, the transfer of music from tape to disc is a simple process. If you fancy putting a little more time in, then many USB turntables ...
... also come with added software that allows for a variety of editing functions to be carried out, once the music is in its digital format. Most supplied software is compatible with both PC and Mac computers.
The supplied software usually allows the user to digitally remove pops, clicks and the sonic affects of static that otherwise spoil the sound of a vinyl record. Once cleaned up, the resulting sound quality can be preferable to the original record, as there's little or no extraneous noise to distract you from the music. In addition to this, the software will generally also be able to convert the standard signal into a WAV or MP3 file - ideal for then recording onto an MP3player. Finally, some software will even allow you to alter the pitch or tempo of the music - perfect for those studying music.
One off-shoot benefit t of making digital recordings of your vinyl is that you're then free to enjoy the music over and over again, without any concern of deteriorating sound quality. Digital files do not wear out like vinyl - meaning that you can keep your treasured vinyl records in pristine condition whilst still enjoying their contents. Of course, USB turntables will still play records through a hi-fi , with most having an inbuilt phono stage to allow for direct connection to any system with an auxiliary input.
