Ways To Eat Healthier
Everyone wants to look and feel healthy. We want to be in good shape. Many of us want to lose weight. We all know that healthy eating is very important when it comes to having a great body and a healthy lifestyle.
Fitness Getaway : What many of us don’t know is exactly what we need to do to eat healthier. We know that our parents told us to eat our vegetables, but it’s more complicated than that. Eating healthier is about finding ways to avoid overeating while still getting the nutrition our body needs to thrive.
But, learning what to do to eat healthier is not something most of us were taught in school (unless we were studying to be a nutritionist!). So, we go about our day and end up eating food that is not only unhealthy, but also helps us pack on pounds we don’t need.
Then, when we try to lose weight we get talked into going on a starvation diet that only works in the short term – as soon as we go off it, we not only gain back the pounds we lost but usually put on a few more pounds. That’s because fad diets are usually starvation diets and they can’t ...
... work in the long term.
The good news is that it isn’t that hard to learn how to eat healthier, Weight lose boot Camp and feel better. It just takes a little bit of effort and some key strategies.
To learn more, we asked the nutritionists at the Live In Fitness LIFE program at Playa del Rey, California for their inside secrets of ways people can eat healthier. Here’s what they were willing to tell us.
• Always buy fresh foods – never packaged foods. Prepackaged foods are filled with chemicals instead of nutrients. These chemicals are not only empty calories we don’t need; they are also harder for our body to digest, meaning they’ll help us gain weight. Fresh food isn’t that hard to prepare, is much healthier for you, and will actually taste better than the prepackaged microwave meals you may have been buying before.
• Never order takeout. Nearly all takeout food is filled with grease and other fat that you don’t need going into your diet. Throw out all your takeout menus so you aren’t tempted to call them up and place an order. Takeout food is not your friend!
• When you go to the store, take a look at the ingredients list of every food product you buy. If the ingredients contain words with five or six syllables or a bunch of numbers, then it’s not healthy food. It’s full of artificial crap your body doesn’t really need.
• Watch what you drink. People drink an average of 400 calories a day (not counting booze!). That’s many more calories than you need simply to not be thirsty. And it doesn’t all come from soda. Fruit juice, for example, is simply liquid sugar and you don’t need it. You can get all the vitamins in juice from other, healthier foods. Try to drink as much water as you can and leave soda, juice and sports drinks (which are mostly sugar) behind.
• Cut high fructose corn syrup out of your life. Many companies have started putting high fructose corn syrup into products, and it is extremely unhealthy for you. Again, look at the labels and if it has high fructose corn syrup in it, avoid it like the plague.
• Try to get as much protein into your diet as possible. Protein helps fill up your stomach while making it easier for you to put on muscle. It can also help boost your metabolism which makes it easier for you to burn calories.
• On the other hand, don’t buy into fad diets that tell you to eat only protein and eliminate carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are important for your body to have as much energy as it needs to run properly. You want to balance protein and carbohydrates in your diet as much as possible.
• Speaking of carbs, change your bread. Most of us eat white bread, and that’s the least nutritious bread out there. Switch to multigrain or whole grain bread instead for your sandwiches. The darker the bread, the better it is for you.
• Try to eat a lot of fish. Fish is not only high in protein and low in calories, but it also has a wide range of nutritional health benefits. It helps improve your memory, and some studies have suggested it can help prevent against the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. It is also low in fat and healthy for your heart and cardiovascular system.
• Avoid watching television while you eat. Studies have shown that people who watch TV during mealtimes tend to eat about 300 calories per meal more than those who don’t. Save the TV until after you’ve finished eating your dinner.
• Chew your food slowly. The more slowly you chew your food, the more full you will feel while eating less. You’ll also get more satisfaction out of your meals when you chew your food and get all the taste you can out of it.
• Bring healthy snacks into work with you. If you have healthy snacks like nuts or celery sticks on hand, you’ll be less likely to be tempted by the empty calories of the office snack machine.
• Green tea is your friend. Not only is green tea very low in calories, it is also extremely healthy for you. It can help you have stronger bones as you get older and it also has strong antioxidant properties.
• Eat a lot of asparagus – especially if you were drinking the night before. Asparagus helps your live process toxins, including booze, more efficiently. That means you’ll get junk out of your body faster and even feel less hungover more quickly.
• Buy smaller plates. This may seem silly, but it really works. If you eat from smaller plates, you get full more quickly and tend to eat less. This is even more true if your plates are blue!
• Try to get zinc into your diet. Zinc helps your body naturally produce protein and boosts your immune system at the same time. You can buy zinc tablets cheaply at any pharmacy or health food store.
• Popcorn is one of the healthiest snacks out there – as long as you don’t load it up with a ton of salt and butter. It’s full of fiber, very filling, and has almost no calories at all.
• Don’t skip out on breakfast. It helps get your body going. And try to eat eggs for breakfast. They are nearly pure protein and have much fewer calories than bagels.
These simple nutrition secrets are a great way to get started on a weight loss or general wellness plan. They can help you get into shape and start living a healthier life.
