Becoming A Local For One Day On Your Cheap Holiday In Bintulu Sarawak
The Borneo Island is home to many indigenous people of the country. The mixture of different cultures brings colours to the two East Malaysia states. One of the ways for you to truly experience the lives of these brilliant people is by becoming one of them for a day. This will ensure you a cheap holiday in Bintulu Sarawak. Generally, a vacation in the state of Sarawak won’t drain you financially as many things are relatively cheap here. Therefore it only makes sense that you choose a budget hotel that suits your financial capabilities so that you won’t have to worry about being a few hundred dollars short when you get home.
One of the things you can do to have an enjoyable but cheap holiday in Bintulu Sarawak is by experiencing the lives of the indigenous people. One example is that you can spend the day at a Melanau Longhouse usually located in ...
... the river mouth of the Rejang River. The Melanau used to be worshippers of nature and their longhouses usually contain artefacts of the spiritual ceremony they used to conduct prior to converting to Christianity or Islam. By spending the day in the Melanau community and mingling with the locals you can benefit from their socio-economic activities and watch a sago making demonstration. This is one of the times that you can have your cake and it eat it too, literally.
A cheap holiday in Malaysia is easily obtainable especially when you are on the Borneo Island, mingling with the local people. Generosity is something that the indigenous people are well known for. Therefore, don’t be surprised if you are invited for lunch or dinner at one of the longhouses that you visit. You may realize that although the meals served are not equipped with fancy crockery or silverwares, the warmth of the people is sure to get your appetite going. You can taste the local food that is specific to that particular community. Of course, you will have to get to know them first prior to getting an invitation so don’t forget to return their friendliness with some of your own.
Your cheap holiday in Sabah can also be spent with the well-known highly skilled artisans of the land below the wind. The ethnic group known as the Kadazandusun is famous for their beadworks and intricate cloth weaving. Their fine workmanship is evident in their handicrafts and tourists from all over the world come to Sabah just to get their hands on these items. Some may buy them as souvenirs while some are avid collectors of indigenous art. Their artwork usually has motifs of ancient designs that are reminiscent of the times when they were worshippers of the spirit of nature. You may want to bear in mind that although these handicrafts are part of their cultural heritage, they are also considered as one of their economic ventures. If you extend your stay until after dinner time you may be treated to a local musical show of singing and dancing.
There are many ways you can make your vacation as inexpensive as it can be. Spending the day with the local people may help you do just that. Once your day is over you can return to your preferred budget hotel to a room that is comfortable enough for you to get a good night rest before starting your day again the day after. As the Borneo Island is home to more than just a few indigenous people, you may spend each day with different ethnic groups as each different group will give you different experience and memories.
