The economy is weighing heavily on most of the minds of Americans and this will no doubt be the hot topic approaching the upcoming presidential debates between Senator Barak Obama and Senator John McCain. The economy is an awful state of affairs as we are all aware. However, what most Americans want to know is what will the future hold for our economy and what will be the impact of the newly elected President on the outcome of our futures. Considering there are many partisan differences between the candidates, this is no easy question to answer. They seem to differ considerably and consistently on taxes, social security, housing, and gas prices.

McCain says he would keep the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 in place and decrease the corporate tax rate. Obama has stated that he would like to keep the tax cuts in place for everyone except those making roughly $250,000 and over. And he has pledged to cut taxes for the middle class. Ok. McCain is against raising taxes and he would prefer to cut social security benefits. Obama does not favor cutting any benefits or so we last heard. McCain would rely heavily on individual effort ...
... and market factors thus driving down the costs. Obama would depend a lot more on government and establish health insurance directives for companies and individuals to make coverage more affordable to everyone. McCain has finally come around to Obama's idea of the Federal Housing Administration backing reasonable loans to lenders making it more affordable to borrowers. However, the plans they support are dramatically different. Ok. Ok. These are merely brushstrokes of the candidates differences in regards to the so-called hot topics of this campaign but it does address a fundamental divide of not only the candidates but for most Americans leaving most of us at the pitch fork in the road scratching our heads. No doubt scrambling to keep our heads above water, keep our mortgages in tact, our children in school, our bills paid and still find the time, guilt-free and without worry, to go out and enjoy ourselves.

As for most individuals, a planned vacation to that warm destination in Negril, Jamaica to enjoy sun-baked patties, downbeat reggae vibes and cold red stripes is currently out of the question. Want to go to London for a week and while there, catch that latest hot theatre production on the West End or catch a rare performance of Anoushka Shankar at the Royal Albert Hall? How about a trip to Berlin for that Sonar Kollectiv Concert featuring all the best Jazzanova artists near the River Spree, afterwards we can hit that place nearby in Friedrichshain for brats and beers? All fabulous ideas and most would jump at these opportunities. However, considering the astronomical prices of fuel currently and the current strength of the US Dollar, I don't see any of these as viable options at this very moment. Well for some of us anyway. So we must turn to our own, reliable and sometimes all too familiar local, live entertainment in our very own backyards. Not a bad option but all too often this can be very costly as well.

However, thanks to online discount websites such StubDog.com and other companies, we can still enjoy entertainment and interesting things to do at half of the price. The great thing about these websites is that they do all the real legwork for us. They do all the scouring, recruiting and searching for you and compile it in one easy to use site destination. All you have to do is to check into this one site destination, select something of your choice, pay and go off and enjoy your evening. These sites, in particular, has an array of interesting events on offer at anyone time from music festivals to theatre to comedy to bus tours to kids museum tours to music to underground film festivals. There is something here for everyone. Plus, the price is right and the work is minimal Perfect for all of us of who are too busy keeping our heads above water and worrying about our economic futures to engage in such activities. We can always find a way to enjoy ourselves.
