The hardest issue that one comes across while remodeling the kitchen is deciding on what all to throw away and what all to retain. The best way to go about it is to sit and actually make a list of what all is there in the area now. After chalking out a list of the elements and items in the kitchen, it is important to categorize these items in two different lists pertaining to your likes and dislikes. You can throw away or change the ones you dislike and keep the ones you like.
Begin with the question- is the kitchen big enough? If not, then one can break the kitchen walls and merge the kitchen area with the adjacent room to make it an open kitchen. This way the kitchen would look bigger and the whole process would add an element of modernity to the whole decor. An open kitchen would leave good room for appliances, extra storage and foot traffic.
Move onto analyze the lighting in the area. A kitchen space has to look warm and welcoming. Kitchen lighting can turn the whole area's look for the better or worse. Good lighting can make the area more desirable and interesting. Track lighting for areas where food is prepared ...
... is a good idea while slightly low intensity lighting in eating areas would work well.
After the space and light question comes the furnishing and accessorizing job. However, before one is onto the furnishing part, it would make sense if one chalks out one's budget for separate kitchen items. Obviously chalking out a budget right at the beginning is the most sensible thing to do but it is equally important to segregate the amount of money that one is going to spend on accessories and furnishing items otherwise one wouldn't be able to keep a count of the money one spends on little things!
Think about the most important furnishing item- countertops, after all of the above is done! Well, countertop spaces are the most significant in the kitchen as they are used for cooking, chopping, cutting, storing etc. Since, countertops are put to such extensive amount of use; they should be made out of materials that are strong and sustainable. Laminate countertops are a good idea as opposed to conventional countertops. Compact grade laminate is a brilliant choice for kitchen purposes. The compact laminates are amazing as they are stain-resistant and therefore are easy to clean. Decorative laminate can also be made use of for kitchens keeping in mind the aesthetic and functional aspect merged into one product.
