Ranthambore, a city located in the state of Rajasthan in northern India, is well known for its wild life sanctuary. Situated in the district of Sawai Madhopur, 180 km from Jaipur, Ranthambore is a hub for nature lovers and adventurists. This sanctuary, once the hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, attracts various tourists and wildlife photographers. Unlike in the other reserves, the tiger can be easily spotted even at the day time here. The beautiful hills, rocky smudges, charming lakes and wide ponds mesmerize the travellers.

Ranthambore village derives its name from the two hills Ran and Thambore. Located on the border of Thar Desert, the Ranthambore tiger reserve covers an area of 390 sq km and has the largest population of tigers. The Rathambore National park, declared the Project Tiger Reserve in 1973, is one of the largest reserves in the country. The Ranthambore reserve houses various rare animals and birds. The animals include leopard, nilgai, chital, wild boar, hyena and sambhar. The beautiful deciduous forest amidst the Vindhya and Aravalli Hills adds the beauty of the region to its extreme. Ranthambore Fort is a majestic fort situated atop a hill from where we can have a glimpse of the entire national park.
This Fort is an oldest fort of the country as was built in 944 AD. The fort is a must visit place for tourists as it houses various archeologically significant items. Jogi Mahal is a guest house for tourists from where visitors can have a stunning view around. This was the hunting lodge for the maharajas of Jaipur.

This airport connects different cities in the country and for foreign travellers, Delhi is the nearest international airport. Sawai Madhopur is the nearest railway station from Ranthambore.
