Weddings are an important part of every culture. In India there are so many cultures and one finds it very much fascinating to be a part of the culture and witness the rituals being followed in each culture as the individuals get married. It is more of a social event.

India is a very vibrant country and the different cultures followed in different regions make it all the more colorful and enthusiastic. So in such a country the pomp and show during a wedding just gets all the more enhanced depending on the region and culture followed back home. Starting from the engagement itself in Hindu weddings, celebrations start and the preparations for the big day would be started, financially as well in the other aspects. The customs and rituals followed may be different in different areas and it is difficult to document each and every one of it in a single go. During the engagement, more commonly known as the ‘sagaai’, families of the bride and groom meet each other and the decision is made after comparing the horoscopes. This is also a big event and depending on the families and their conditions, the degree of celebration ...
... varies. The time between Indian weddings and engagement differs in different cultures and nowadays it is chiefly depending on the life styles and working culture of the concerned individuals who are getting married.

The date of the wedding is fixed in advance. It has a rather complicated process of selection of time and date for the Indian weddings which is done on the basis of horoscopic details and other astronomic calculations. The selection of the venue and the pattern of the wedding may depend on a lot of external factors like the financial set up of the families involved and the culture followed by the families. People usually look forward to the wedding evening as it is a grand social event involving many people and the celebrations are a joyous event to see. The guests are treated well and the reception dinners are a common part of the Hindu weddings making it a grand success.
