Bow Windows Are Not Just For Old Houses
There are some extremely famous bow windows around the world, with the one on the front of White's Club, in St. James's Street, London, being amongst the more famous. They were also particularly prevalent during the Federal period in the United States; but you unfortunately do not often see them on newer properties, and this is somewhat of a shame.
Bow windows are essentially curved bay windows, and for this reason are more difficult to manufacture than many other styles, particularly when this type of manufacturing was done by hand. This is why you see them on older properties; only more wealthy people could afford to buy them, and therefore they tend to be better maintained.
Thanks to manufacturing advancements in the industry, it is now much easier and cheaper to produce bow style windows. UPVC composites can be moulded in to a much wider variety of styles than traditional wooden frames, which often required an extremely skilled craftsman to create in a curved style without ruining the wood and rendering it unusable. Smooth, streamlined arches can be made out of a single piece of plastic, which means that modern ...
... bow windows are much less expensive than they traditionally have been.
They can also be made by piecing together multiple smaller pieces of plastic, resulting in a much jagged shape, which is none the less attractive at a distance, and can sometimes be cheaper still. A single piece design is more stable, however, and provides greater security for your home. UPVC is much better at retaining heat too, which means that you can save a large amount of cash on your energy bill each month, and eventually your new investment will pay for itself.
Traditionally, wood can warp and rot, resulting in expensive windows needing to be replaced quite often when compared to UPVC plastics. The longevity of composite doors and windows means that they can be a sound investment for years to come, so there is no reason that they cannot be fitted onto the most modern of homes. When coupled with striking designs, and the option of a number of colours for your frames, it means that your home can look up to date, and still have a beautiful bow window. You can also have composites made to look like wood, if you are so inclined, giving your home a classic feel without compromising on the quality of your windows and doors.
Force 8 fire doors and composite doors and windows are much more heat retentive, durable and secure than wooden versions, and now you can have bow windows in this style, there is no reason why we should not see more homes with this design in the future.
