Gwalior - Ancient City Awaits

Situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh Gwalior is a city that is famous as a tourist destination. Steeped in rich history, culture and tradition, the city was founded by the king Suraj sen of the Kachwaha clan.
With numerous forts, palaces and sacred temples dotting the city’s landscape, Gwalior was a prominent historical city even in the ancient times. The city lies in the Gird region of the state and was formerly the princely state of Madhya Pradesh. According to many legends, the city was named a saint Gwalipa who is believed to have cured king Suraj Sen of leprosy.
The ancient city of Gwalior has been ruled by various prominent dynasties and rulers such as Tomaras, Mughals, Marathas, Scindias, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and Tatya Tope before finally falling under the rule of the British. From as early as the 8th century, the city has been a favourite among the many dynasties and even finds mention in ancient Hindu epics where it is referred to as Gopalkash. Gwalior Packages facilitates a detailed tour of the city where one gets to see all the prominent tourist attractions here like the magnificent forts, kunds, museums and ancient temples. Among the tourist attractions here, the most prominent one in the Gwalior Packages is the Gwalior Fort. This fort was built during the 8th century and houses beautiful temples, museums and kunds inside it. The Gwalior Fort is a fine blend of various architectural styles and is a favourite among archaeology students.
The city is famous for its many tals or ponds that are part of many Gwalior Packages. Prominent among the ponds here are Mansarovar Tal, Sangola tal, Talkatora, Ek Khambha Tal, Rani Tal and Chedi Tal. Suraj Kund and Jauhar Kund are also famous for their many historic associations that have been well depicted at these sites. The Tomb of Ghaus Mohammad built in the memory of an Afghan Prince Ghaus Mohammad who became a Sufi saint is another interesting attraction in the region.
Gwalior also has interesting museums that attract many here are part of many Gwalior Packages too. Scindia Museum and Gujari Mahal are two museums known for their antique collections dating back to the 2nd century. The city is also home to many religious centres that are also included in Gwalior Packages such as Teli-ka-Mandir, Surya Mandir, Gurudwara Data Bandi Chhod and Dargah Khwaja Kanoon Sahib. Memorials like the Chhatris of Scindia Dynasty and the Samadhi of Rani Lakshmi Bai are also popularly visited by tourists.
