Repairing Your Credit Is Easier Than You Think
It can be hard to improve your credit for a number of reasons. Poor credit can be difficult to talk about or share with others, so it's hard to get the kind of information you need, in order to make a change. There is information out there and here are a few great tips that may help you to repair your credit.
Another way to repair your credit is through the use of secured credit cards. These cards are available with many different rates, so be sure to shop around for one that can work for you. Just don't apply to too many, because this can actually lower your credit score. This is due to the fact that it may appear to the credit bureaus that you are having money issues, and are trying to increase your credit lines.
Although it requires a lot of time, seven years to be more precise, and a ton of patience, sometimes, simply waiting it out is your best option. Typically, after seven years, bad debt falls off of your credit report. So if you can commit yourself to no new debt for seven years, it could be smooth sailing.
If you find yourself deep in a credit crisis and you are being contacted by debt collectors, ...
... keep calm and remember that collectors have a legal obligation to verify the validity of the debts they want you to pay. You are entirely within your rights to demand proof of your obligation before making any payment.
When you enter into the process of repairing your credit, you must have a great deal of patience for the outcome. It is going to take quite a while to see any repairs or improvements. It is most definitely not an overnight fix and there are no "magical" solutions that will fix it quickly.
Keep your first account open. Whatever credit account you have had open the longest, is the best one to keep on your report. Don't close this account because the limit is too low or the rate is too high. Try to get a higher credit limit, or ask for a lower interest rate, but even if they won't give that to you, keep the card and keep using it. The longer track record you have with an account, the more it will affect your score in a positive way.
If you are serious about repairing your credit, take measures to reduce your spending. Most of us buy things we do not really need and eat out more often than we should. Cutting back on your spending will free up money to put towards reducing your debt, which will lead to better credit.
Do what you can to increase your income levels to help improve your FICO scores. Your debt to income ratio is a big factor in determining your credit score. Most people will advise you to pay down your debts to better the ratio. The other way to help it is by increasing your income. Either method will help your debt to income ratio become much more appealing.
If you are trying to repair your credit, and are being approached by a creditor for a very old debt, check the statute of limitations on the debt. If the time allowed by the statute of limitations on the debt has run out, they have no legal recourse to collect that debt any longer. Even if you don't pay, those debts will fall off your credit report.
Credit repair does not happen overnight but is something that must be learned over a period of time. It takes you time to get bad credit and it's going to take some time to get back to good credit. However, the good news is, that there is information out there. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can repair your credit.
