By now you should realize that there is no magic wand or great secret to having a successful work from home business. There is nothing you can do for your business that can replace good old fashioned hard work.

Probably the two most important steps you can take to get your website in front of your customer is article submission and link swapping. Links are the true magic in gaining a higher search engine ranking and getting you in front of your customer.

Although they are unlikely to send as much traffic to your website as search engines, directories are an important weapon to employ as a part of your over all marketing strategy. How are directories different from search engines?

When you use a search engine, you type in a word or phrase and hope that what you are searching for will be on the first two or three pages. Hopefully they use the right combination of keywords and voila` your website is in first place and a potential customer is knocking on your door. In actuality, unless you are incredibly lucky or brilliant, your site is buried somewhere around page 2,459,213.

Directories differ from search ...
... engines in some very important ways. Directories are edited by humans and that insures better quality submissions. That means less submissions and more quality traffic. When searching for information in a directory, the user has to dig down to the relevant category to find what they are looking for. This means that visitor who comes to your website from a directory is more likely to convert into a customer as they will already have a greater understanding of the products and services you provide.

You should never forget that directories don't exist to give away free links. Their purpose is to provide their visitors with good quality sites. If you want to improve your chances to get listed you need a well designed web site containing useful and original content or offering useful services.

Since most major search engines these days lay emphasis on quality links from human edited websites like directories, make it a point to make link and article submission an important part of your marketing strategy.
