No Health Insurance Is No Alternative
Health insurance is very expensive, and some people rationalize going without it because they figure that they invest their resources into being healthy, and they never need to go to the doctor. Their favorite alternative and complementary medicines such as chiropractic, acupuncture, and massage are generally not covered by insurance plans anyway, and even if they are, the chiropractor probably does not accept insurance. But, not having health insurance is NOT an alternative for those alternative medicines ! Why? Because, if you are involved in a car accident, and you are laying on the side of the road, scared that your injuries are serious, do you want to be rushed to a chiropractor or to an emergency room?
Alternative and complementary medicines are wonderful for your health and well being, can be very effective at preventing illness and disease, can expedite recovery from injury and reliance on pain killers, just to name a few benefits, check out great preventative medicines for men and women. But, these benefits will not help with many medical conditions, diseases and injuries. If you break a bone, you will need ...
... a doctor’s examination, most likely an emergency room examination, tests, casts or splints, and follow up. If you have symptoms of an illness, if you feel a lump in your breasts, if you get a nasty bacterial infection…..you will need a doctor’s care. When you do not have insurance, you have to pay for it yourself, and it is not cheap! Over 60% of all bankruptcies filed in the United States arise from medical bills. Depending on your illness, some people receive bills well into tens and hundreds of thousand dollars. But, what else could you do when faced with a debilitating injury or illness? Your health and the health of your family are the most important things in your life, and sadly, sometimes we realize that only when our health is taken from us.

So, be smart, get low cost individual health insurance . Individual medical insurance coverage is more reasonable than you think, certainly more reasonable than paying the bills if something happens and you are uninsured. AND, here is the best part for everyone that uses those alternative, complementary medicines and remedies: there are health insurance plans that can HELP you pay for them! If you have a high deductible insurance plan (link to terms blog), you are eligible to use a Health Savings Account (HSA). HSA’s are savings accounts that you fund with pretax dollars to pay for medical expenses not covered by your insurance plan. The list of eligible expenses is quite extensive, see what is covered now. This makes HSA’s the perfect way to pay for acupuncture, chiropractic, and all of those other expenses that add up every month. Check out this video tutorial of how HSA’s work, and start funding one today (humana).
