Helicopters are used in aerial photography as they can be more flexible in terms of where they can fly. There are two kinds of aerial photography and these are vertical aerial photography and oblique aerial photography. Vertical aerial photography is where a camera is fixed to an aircraft and it will fly at a fixed height to capture images. In oblique aerial photography a hand held camera is used to capture images of places that are flown over.

Web map service or WMS as it is known is a standard protocol for the delivery of geospatial data to GIS software, design packages and web interfaces. WMS is makes aerial photography images easy to manage and easy to access through online sources. To use a WMS you simply need to enter a URL into the software package that you are using and the images you want will be displayed for you. WMS makes imagery much easier to sort and view as it allows users to look at specific parts of images rather than having to look though lots of images to find the specific part they want to view.
