There are tons of diets out there, and some are going to work for you and some are not going to. Others will work for your friends, but will not work for you, or the other way around. That is why it's very important to know about all the different diets out there in the world so you can choose the one that works best for you. One of the newer diets that everyone is talking about is the Ornish diet, which was developed by Dr. Dean Ornish. This was a diet that was first detailed in his book called Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease. Unlike other diets that try and stop heart disease from happening, this is a diet that is used to reverse heart disease, but it can also be used as a weight loss program. This is a type of vegetarian diet that emphasizes low fat while allowing you to eat very filling food.

The first thing you are going to notice about this diet is that it puts very strict limits on the amount of food that you can eat that has any kind of cholesterol and saturated fats. This means that fish and meat are not allowed in this diet at all. There is also a limit you can have on nonfat dairy products, ...
... as well as egg whites. What you will find yourself eating a lot of during this diet is, of course, the complex carbohydrates like fruits and grains. However, simple carbohydrates, like sugars and honey, will need to be limited. Some people feel that the controversial part of his diet is the prohibition of nuts, and of course fish that have Omega 3 in them. However, Ornish highly recommends the consumption of Omega 3 in fish oil pills. This way you get the oil you need without eating the fish.

Overall, when using his diet, you are trying to get to a 10% fat, 20% protein and a 70% carbohydrate diet. This is what you will be working towards. Most Americans are said to have a 40% fat, 20% protein, and 40% carbohydrate diet. So, in this diet you will be trying to eliminate foods that are high in fat, like peanut butter, fish and other foods; and getting more foods that are high in carbohydrates. Keep in mind that this must all be done with a work out as well, to keep healthy. Overall, Ornish diet can be a very healthy diet to live by while losing weight at the same time.
