Teaching children the Torah at a young age is something that will help them as they grow. This is because the Torah contains a lot of important lessons and values that will help mold youngsters into the fine and upstanding adults that they can become later on.

Having Torah portions for children is one of the ways to accomplish this. These special readings should be something that teach Jewish children not just an important lesson about themselves, but also something very meaningful about God and life in general.

The Sefer Torah contains five books and these books are called the Bereshit or Genesis, Shemoth or Exodus, VaYikra or Leviticus, BeMidbar or Numbers, and Devarim or Deuteronomy. These five books are known by a more popular name in Hebrew and it is Chumash.

The Sefer Torah is a part of the TaNaKh, and the word TaNaKh is an acronym naming parts of the Hebrew Bible. These parts are the letter T for Torah, the letter N for Nevi'im, and Kh represents Ketuvim. The Torah is the first place to start off when learning the TaNaKh.

A good many of the individual books that belong to the TaNaKh were ...
... originally written before 3 BC, it was not until 90 CE that they were actually all together. This happened in the town of Yavneh.

The Haftarah refers to the sections that come after the fifty-four portions, or parshiot, that are in the Torah. These special sections come directly from Nevi'im and are connected to it.

Torah portions for children are something that can be very exciting to learn. Not only do they teach little ones all that they need to know about faith and God, but they also help to teach them about themselves and who they are as God's chosen people. Most importantly, it reveals God’s love for them to these youngsters.

Learning the Torah can be very fun-filled journey for kids if done in the right manner to encourage them freely to learn. Using very simple and attention-getting activities to help them grasp the understanding of these very deep concepts is the way to go.

Torah portions for children can be taught to boys and girls with the use of music, as well as in the form of interactive little books each week, or through question sheets after a presentation. Quizzes or the use of puzzles and games can also be effective. Specific Torah portions can be even tied to the letters of the Hebrew alphabet to teach what each portion are about.
