Why Go In The Mastering Studio?

If you work in the music industry then the mastering studio is something that you will be familiar with. Indeed it is a place which is a fundamental part of the record production process and therefore many people in music-related jobs are no strangers to it.
Any seasoned artist – not to mention record label representatives, producers and other professionals involved with creating records – will have spent a substantial amount of time in the studio. The mastering studio is very much the domain of a producer. Indeed masters of the craft such as Steve Lillywhite and Brian Eno command as much respect in the industry as many musicians (although the latter is also well known for his exploits with the band Roxy Music).
An integral part of the anatomy of any mastering studio is the mixing desk. This in a way can be seen as an extra instrument in that it plays a role as fundamental as the likes of drums or guitars. It is used to adjust the levels of different instruments and edit out any undesirable elements of the overall ‘mix’. In other words the mastering studio is where the polish and final touches of production ...
... are added to the recorded music.
When it comes to the activities associated with the mastering studio many people prefer to sit in have a say in the overall production of each track recorded. Indeed an experienced producer is only too happy to liaise with a respected artist who knows what they are talking about to ensure the final product is up to scratch. However it is not unheard of for certain musicians to not enter the mastering studio at all. Indeed many members of bands see it as their job done after the playing their instrument for recording sessions. These days it is even possible to send pre-recorded work to a mastering studio over the web and let them do all the audio mastering.
Where can I find a mastering studio of the very highest quality?
