Bathroom Renovation- Projects That You Shouldn't Handle On Your Own
Even though the bathroom is typically one of the smallest rooms in the house, it can present some of the biggest challenges when starting a remodel. While most homeowner's can handle basic home improvement projects, there are certain aspects of a bathroom remodel that are better left for the professionals. Unless you have some experience in these fields, the following areas are projects that would be better to have a professional perform
Electrical
Usually I would recommend performing basic electrical projects on your own, with the help of some easy to follow books, but when it comes to the bathroom there are additional dangers. As we all know, water and electricity are not a good combination. When it comes to the safety of your family, it is better to take all the precautions rather than try to tackle it yourself. A licensed electrician will be familiar with all the local code to make sure that it passes inspection, and he will make sure all the necessary safety precautions are taken.
Plumbing
When it comes to running plumbing or moving it, this is definitely something that you shouldn't tackle ...
... on your own. While it may seem like a pretty basic concept, the smallest mistake can lead to disasterous consequences. If a pipe is not properly sealed, or the wrong size/type of pipe is used, you could literally have hundreds of gallons of water spilling into your house. Not only that, but you also want to make sure that everything is up to proper code. By bringing in a professional it will ensure that you don't run into any problems down the road.
Ventilation
Installing an exhaust fan isn't a huge project, but if you are planning on venting it through the roof, you can create more problems than you are prepared for. I would rather have a professional run the ventilation up through the roof to ensure that it is properly sealed and you won't have any problems with water getting in through the hole you are creating in the roof.
There are other projects, such as the shower, that you want to make sure are done properly but they are projects that you handle by yourself. By concentrating on the projects that are achievable with your skill set, and leaving the major projects to the professionals, you can rest assured that your bathroom remodel with be up to code and worry free for years to come.
