It Assets Disposal: Best & Essential Part Of Regular Operations
Disposal of IT assets is an essential part of day-to-day operations. But, there are lacks of clear policies because of which companies are exposed to various types of risks. One of the confronting issues of all retailers is proper disposal IT assets. It is estimated that almost 150 million obsolete PCs, laptops and other devices are being stored by firms who do not have knowledge about how to dispose them. These numbers are reason for numerous problems for retailers such as privacy of client data and recycling of raw materials for meeting up with the strict environmental regulations. Retailers also have to be aware of recycling – where businesses strip the electronics of precious metals and then dump the reminder of the parts into landfills.
So there is a need to understand the problems associated with the IT Asset Disposal and to provide required services meeting compliance standards and at the same ...
... time helping retailers to gain maximum value for their assets. An Ideal IT Asset Disposal solution should be able to provide minimum of data security risk with complete data scrubbing and hard drive crushing solutions. Apart from that it should provide services like no cost option to retailers, scrap services, shared revenue sale services and data overwriting and logistics process.
There are common weaknesses that have been found out in IT Asset Disposition Processes. Which are:
=>IT asset disposition is not core competency of the firm and that’s why assets come out of use they are moved to internal storage and once it decommissions without a plan it increases overhead cost for the firm.
=>These processes are fragmented. A complete IT asset disposition process might require the consolidation of downstream allies, which becomes an issue.
Apart from these other issue is non transparency of the processes. The true overhead costs of consignment programs are not known to the owner of the asset. So final return on investment of the disposal programme becomes hazy in the cost of inventory, recycling and maintaining proper documentations.
=>These are the main issues with the IT asset disposition processes. When the firms are not sure how to go about it then, they are often left to create internal processes that are tied to service partners and then staff to support those programs. Few companies which are good at IT Asset Disposition Management effectively manage all type of acquisition cost and maintenance of IT Assets. These firms usually have policies for solid data security. Apart from that these firms are also aware of being environmentally and socially responsible.
