EFFICIENCY APARTMENT

An efficiency apartment is really popular with college students or military personnel who know they won’t be here more than a few months. This is usually quite affordable, and you may rent or own – depending on availability. An efficiency is usually only 2 rooms – a bathroom and a large room. The large room will have your kitchen and living/sleeping area. It usually is a little larger than a dorm room, but with the benefit of a kitchen. A duplex is usually less expensive to purchase than a free-standing house, simply because it shares a common roof and foundation with another dwelling. Often, a family will buy one side of a duplex and retired parents will buy the other side so that the family can be close together.

SEMI-DETACHED

A semi-detached home is similar to a duplex, but only share one common area, such as an entry hall or garage entry. This type of home will offer you more privacy than a duplex, but still be more affordable than a free-standing home.

HOUSE

A house, of course, is a separate building on its own lot. It can be any size, on any lot. It should have separate rooms for the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and living room – otherwise, it’s basically an efficiency apartment.
