Tips To Design A Questionnaire

No survey is complete without a perfect questionnaire being designed for it. Questionnaires, as quite coherent from the name, are forms containing questions about a product. Mainly, they are used for market research, especially before launching a new product so that the owners of company can see where the product lacks, and what its strong points are. This greatly helps the manufacturers to improve the product from every dimension and then launch it into the market. But what if the questionnaire fails to give you a correct impression about your product? For example, regarding the case of a new drink, the question is asked about quality of the drink, while people give answer about packaging. This can often happen if the questionnaires are not properly designed, or the questions are long and very difficult to be understood. In such cases, it usually happens that although improvements are made to the product, it is still not according to what the people require. Thereby, you need to follow certain tips and keep in mind several clauses before designing a questionnaire.
First of all, decide on the purpose of the questionnaire. ...
... Set your goals and aims so that the questionnaire is designed in a way that you obtain all the necessary information. What if you design a questionnaire, and conduct it, but it does not meet your objectives. It will be a total mess and loss of money and energy. Only put in the questions which you believe will directly answer all your queries. Also try to avoid questions that may give you a variety of replies or misguide you.
Next, you may write a short and precise introduction for the questionnaire addressing the people directly. In the introduction, tell the people the way they have to answer the question and plead them to give their original views so that there can be an improvement in the product. Also explain your goal of this questionnaire. However, keep in mind never to ask the person about his or her personal details, like name or contact number. This can make the person skeptic about you and might give a misleading response.
Try your best to include as many closed questions as possible in your questionnaire, because they are easier to answer. Try to put as many MCQ’s or yes/no questions as possible as the people will feel rather easy to give their response this way. Also, keep the questions very short and don’t use very difficult words that the reader gets annoyed and simply answers the questions in haste. Keep the number of questions less. If you keep a very lengthy survey, the readers might get bored and fed up of filling that questionnaire. Lastly, make sure that the survey adds a variety of question. Repetition of the same questions will result in the customers leaving off the survey. If you keep all these clauses in mind and then design a survey compatible with them, you will surely attain a very accurate response from the customers.
