How To Create The Ultimate Music Mix
One of the great things about music is its ability to evolve over time to things that we never thought it would go to or be popular. Even though there is an almost set in stone sound that is attributed to the pop music genre, it has over the years taken from all the genres surrounding the time that are popular and unpopular alike. This “borrowing” of ideas has made it somewhat difficult to create the ultimate mix when planning for a party or other type of event, but with a few different play list ideas putting the right tracks in the right list should be relatively easy.
The idea that people naturally use first when creating play lists is to put all the song that sound similar to each other in a single list. Even if the tracks are played in a random order most play lists like this will flow together very well and work good, but in the end the same sound will get old and a new play list will have to take its place. This is a good idea for organizing music for people that like to be interactive with shaping their play list, but they fall somewhat short when they are used in a long sitting where it is impossible ...
... or hard to switch around such as when exercising or during a party.
Putting all of the tracks into a single list of two or three different collections is a good way to add some interesting variety into an otherwise bland mix. If the mix is digital then this can be done rather easily, but sometimes this can make a person be more interactive with the music. Combining a modern music collection along with some The Beatles record albums from SoundStage Direct or Neil Young record albums from SoundStage Direct just ran through a VPI record cleaner is fun but requires someone to tend to the mix. Fortunately this can be done in a hands-off approach if the records are digitized or if there is only one point in the middle of a mix where the record player is used. Heavy mixes utilizing this pattern may work sometimes, but often times the lows and highs of the mixed music's intensity will contrast each other too much to be enjoyable to listen to. This is important to prevent so people do not get somewhat uncomfortable or sick of hearing it after a while of hearing it.
The last idea is to organize the initial play lists into collections of music that would be appropriate for a mix. This works relatively well because many tracks can be interchanged between each list if one gets old after a while so a little variety can be obtained without widening the spectrum of the collection. Getting more music also works, and with services like Spotify it can be done without having to pay extra for new artist's music.
