Khajuraho Hotels- Where Time Stands Still
Situated in the Bundelkhand region of Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh, Khajuraho is world famous as a tourist attraction and an archaeological site for its medieval temples that are ornate with erotic sculptures. It is believed that once this region was abundant in date palms called 'khajur' in Sanskrit and that is where the city gets its name from.
Khajuraho is not only famous in the country but has received international recognition after being declared a UNESCO world heritage site and listed one among the Seven Wonders of the World.
Khajuraho was once an the capital of the Chandela kings and extended over 21 sq. km in area with about 85 temples built by many rulers. It is believed that by around the late 11th century, the Chandelas moved elsewhere and Khajuraho was largely forgotten till it was rediscovered this complex of temple in the jungle of Khajuraho in 1838 by a British army captain, TS Burt.

Lalgun Mahadev, Matangeshwar, Varaha, Lakshman, Parshwanath, ChaturBhuja, Ghantai, Vishwanath, Devi Jagdambi, Chitragupta, Kandriya Mahadevi, Vaman, Adinath and Duladev are the most famous among the temples of Khajuraho. These temple are mostly made out of sandstone and are world famous for their erotic sculptures. An important feature of these temples is that although the outside walls are ornate with these erotic sculptures, the inside walls are devoid of any such work. It is said to imply that to be one with god one must leave behind all worldly desires. Khajuraho is also famous as the host of an annual dance show known as the 'Khajuraho Dance Festival'.

Khajuraho has an airport that is connected to the major Indian cities and the city is also well connected by bus to Delhi and nearby areas. The nearest railhead is at Mahoba, around 60 km away. The best time to visit Khajuraho is from September to March.
