There are 2 different kinds of glass-paint - water based and non-water-based. Both of them have a good assortment of colours and are mixable within their classes.

There are three different ways of applying an outline whilst creating glass painted birthday cards:

Glass-Paint Outline stickers - These are perfect for newcomers to glass painting and are best used on flat, even surfaces. Beginning in one corner, gently peel up the sticker, being careful not to stretch or distort it and apply it to the clean glass surface area of your birthday cards.

Glass paint outliner - These are applied by squeezing the outliner out of a tube to provide a fine outline. They are available in a variety of colours. They are able to be applied as an outline for the design prior to paint being applied or piped over a pre-painted surface as fine detailing.

Leading Tape - Doors and windows usually necessitate this type of outliner.

Method:

Before you begin painting, ensure there are no specs ...
... of dust and grease on the glass area of the birthday cards, thereby ensuring good adherence. A solvent such as white spirit or methylated spirit should also be used.
Because a birthday card has a flat surface, designs are usually traced straight through. It is easier to work on a flat surface, so try to lay the birthday card of a horizontal surface.

To create a straight line with a glass paint outliner touch the nozzle onto a glass surface followed by applying a gentle even pressure, lift the nozzle away from the surface and stretch the out liner along in a straight line. Tap the nozzle down onto the glass surface when you are ending the line.
Whilst filling in sections in between outlines on the glass section of your birthday cards with a paint brush, apply paint generously by peddling the paint or making use of a pipette. This will offer a smooth, stained-glass effect. To obtain a lighter colour of paint, dilute with water for the water-based paints or gloss varnish for the non-water based paints.

Paint should always be poured into a palette as opposed to straight from the jar. In order to prevent colours from becoming dirty or diluted. Glass paint can also be applied using a sponge, but birthday cards are likely to have lesser areas, whereas this approach is generally best for wider areas.

To finish, a layer of varnish can be a used to protect solvent based paints, which is obtainable in both a matt or gloss finish. Birthday cards are usually created with a gloss finish, although if you would like something unique, you may choose to use matt varnish. The gloss varnish is able to be used as a colourless thinner to obtain pastel shades without affecting the transparency and depth of colour. The matt varnish gives a finish like frosted glass. To add finishing touches to a project, while the paint is still wet, you can use tweezers to add beads or sequins. The wet paint is able to act as a glue. You can also add glitter by sprinkling it onto the wet paint giving your birthday cards that extra bit of glisten.

Note: While adopting this craft in conditions other than for your birthday cards, glass paint must be applied only for ornamental objects, the colors aren't dishwasher proof. It can, nonetheless be shined by wiping with a damp flannel.
