For the love of maple syrup, please stop holding down the horn button like a driver hell bent on road rage. A sudden onset of car beeps can give one a heart attack. Whether you get stuck in rush hour traffic or your wife takes too long inside the shoe store, never abuse your car horn. It was only designed for one purpose and one purpose only – using one short “beep.”

Road etiquette states that a brief “beep” will suffice to alert drivers of their impending mistake, not a long one or salvos of it. In fact, you can get in trouble with the law if you don’t use your car horn properly. Here are scenarios where you should never abuse the use of the horn that was designed to save lives.

Traffic jam: If there’s one thing rush hour traffic is distinctive at, it has to be the incessant honks of hundreds of cars caught in one. Honking your way out of a traffic jam early in the morning will do you no good. You’re already there, so your best bet is to wait for it to move and pray that you make it to your destination on time.

When in slow-moving traffic, however, you can use a short beep to alert drivers ...
... changing lanes that you’ll be passing through. Many drivers won’t find one short beep to be offensive, but it gets too old quickly when you do it again and again.

Quiet zones: Churches, hospitals, and serene out-of-town places are examples of quiet zones in Canada. Surely, you wouldn’t want to abuse the use of your car horn while a mass is ongoing inside a church. Aside from car horn abuse being downright rude and annoying, it can also get you in trouble with the law. Edmonton used cars for sale have horns only to be used for safety reasons, not as weapons of mass annoyance.

One brief honk: it’s all you’ll ever need to drive safely without annoying other motorists. Driving courtesy wouldn’t have it another way. So the next time you use car horns of Edmonton used cars, make sure that it is as an attempt to get a fellow driver out of harm’s way.
