Doing a DIY on water heater installation can help you save some bucks. However it can make you lose some as well if you goof it up. Better option is to call in local professional plumbing contractors who will ensure error-free installation.

Billy, a resident of Crown Point, Indiana, was a hurried man that day. He had to reach his office early to prepare for a meeting. But he never knew the water heater in the bathroom would ruin his plans. When he walked in for a bath, what he found was a huge puddle of water on the floor, coming out of the water heater. He had already repaired it himself twice in the last month and was pretty much sure that it would deliver the goods for at least half a year more. However, the heater had other ideas, it seemed. He had no option now but to replace it with a new heater. He thought of getting one while returning from the office and install it himself.

This is what he tried to do in the evening but to no avail. The heater just refused to settle down or, may be, Billy was not very sure how to install a water heater. Repairing and installation are two distinctly different things, and ...
... knowing one doesn’t mean that you will be able to do the other as well. Billy had no option now but to call in the professionals.

Doing a water heater installation DIY is not something you should attempt till you know how to do that. Here are few tips that will come handy when installing a water heater.

First have a quick go-through of the basics. The water heaters are of two types, namely electric and gas-fueled. Depending on the location, a gas water heater can sometime cost you less to operate than the electric one. When choosing one, make your choice by checking the power consumption ratings indicated on the unit.

When installing the water heater, whether gas or electric, all the power connections to the old unit should be turned off. Then you must disconnect the old hot and cold water pipe connections after draining the hot water tank. In order to drain out the water from the tank, a hose pipe is needed to hook up to the outlet at the bottom of the tank.

After making the old unit empty, detach it from the clamps and make room for the new water heater. Place the temperature and pressure relief valves at their designated points and then connect the water lines by following a standard procedure to avoid any water leakage. The next step is to connect it to the power source. In case of a gas-fuelled unit, the gas line is required to be attached to the fuel vent. The new unit can now be turned on and filled with cold water after making all the necessary connections.

If you are finding the DIY difficult, you can hire a plumbing contractor for installing the water heater. In fact it is a better option as not many people will feel comfortable doing such a task.

For installing water heaters Crown Point residents must go for a full service plumbing contractor. They will provide a complete range of services, along with providing parts and labor service warranty on most jobs. There are many who will provide emergency services as well.
