IT pros have always needed to deal with performing a network scan of a growing quantity of personal computers and servers in their organizations. This type of requirement is generally known to as network scans, Network Inventory or PC auditing. Sometime ago, if a person needed hardware and software inventory across a network, it meant actually going to each computer on the network and recording network inventory data manually manually. Fortunately, throughout the years OS's have improved a lot, making Network Inventory much easier. NEWT Professional is a software inventory product made to lessen the work involved with Asset Management and network scans. Developed in 2003, NEWT has continually been improved into a very fast PC Inventory tool, able to network scan hundreds of computer systems in minutes, saving money and time for all sizes of organizations.
In the world of Network Management, you'll find several techniques used to Network Inventory computers. Two types of tools are available, one that uses an agent and one that doesn't. Agentless Network Scanning can be ...
... very slow and/or have many difficulties with computer and Windows security settings, for example WMI (Windows Management Interface), they still require going to individual PCs to correct problems before they could be audit. This is very frustrating to any Network Inventory advisor. Using an agent can get around these issues, but frequently requires days or hours of extensive deployment, making your network scanning unbearable.
The developers at Komodo Labs devoted an entire year creating a technique to eliminate many of these Network Administration issues, culminating in their latest version, 2.5. NEWT Professional now only requires read/write access to the ADMIN$ (pronounced "admin dollar" or administrator share), which is available by default to administrators in Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. This enables Network Inventory to get the same information in only minutes that before required thousands of hours. Not just have scan speeds improved, but network bandwidth was greatly reduced, making it possible to accomplish Network Inventory over slow connections, for example WANs (Wide Area Networks), with little effect on network traffic.
NEWT Professional is use for any sized network where a total Network Inventory is required, and several MSP (Managed Service Providers) and Network Inventory techs use NEWT Professional to quickly detect computer inventory for his or her clients. It picks up all of the normal Hardware inventory and Software Inventory information, including computer serial numbers, CPU information, Product Keys, etc., but also goes further by detecting CPU temperature and hard drive temperature, USB version (1.x, 2.0 or 3.0), hard disk bus type (IDE versus. SATA), drive type (hard drive vs. SSD) & serial number, monitor type (LCD/CRT), detailed RAM Slot info and many more.
After carrying out a Network Audit, data will come in a simple-to-read spreadsheet-like view, with options including saving to NEWT's own format, exporting to Excel, HTML, text or perhaps a fully relational MS Access (MDB) database.
In terms of super fast fast network inventory, NEWT Professional should meet your network scanning needs, all with a low cost of investment.
