Wayanad - Refreshing Trip

Wayanad tucked away located on the southern tip of the Deccan Plateau in the majestic Western Ghats, in the north-east region of Kerala, far away from the hustle and bustle of the cities offers the perfect break from the mundane day to day life of the city dwellers. The name 'Wayanad' is said to be a combination of two Tamil words (Vayal + Naad), Vayal meaning Paddy field and Naad meaning land thus, translating into the 'land of the paddy fields'. While as per local folk lore the region was once known as Mayakshetra (Maya's land) which later became Mayanad and finally Wayanad.
For tourist attractions, there is plenty of interesting tourist attractions present in and around the region. Some of the popular tourist attractions of the region includes Chembra Peak, Neelimala, Meenmutty Falls, Chethalayam Falls, Pakshipathalam, Banasura Sagar Dam, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Muthanga Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Tholpetty, Jain Temple, Edakkal Caves, Pazhassi Raja’s Tomb, Pookote Lake, Sentinel Rock Falls, Kanthanpara Falls, Sunrise Valley and the local markets among others, which are renowned for its coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper, plantain and vanilla.
Adventure sports enthusiasts can also have a good time in the region with several sports offered in the region like nature walks, trekking, hiking, mountaineering, rappelling and much more.
There are also plenty of hotels and resorts catering to the lodging needs of the myriad of travelers visiting the region.
