Tanzania is a fantastic destination if one is considering going to Africa for a safari. There are quite a few choices on where to go and what to do in Tanzania, as there is something in all parts of the country to interest any traveller. There are two main circuits for safaris in Tanzania – the Northern Circuit safari and the Southern Circuit safari. Other places of interest include Mount Kilimanjaro – which is the highest peak in Africa and the islands of Zanzibar – which are located offshore the mainland.

The Northern Circuit safari is the most popular safari route in Tanzania and goes through the Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti National Park, the Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara. The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is well known for its annual migration when more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. The park offers some of the most beautiful views of wildlife in Africa including buffalo, elephants, giraffes and several antelopes. The Ngorongoro Crater, which is a large volcanic ...
... caldera lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which is also UNESCO world Heritage Site. The Northern Circuit safari is perfect for novice safari travellers – there is much to see and do, and there will be many other safari goers, therefore you will feel safer.

The Southern Circuit safari is aimed towards seasoned travellers looking for something that is outside the typical safari experience. This safari route is much secluded and private with fewer game vehicles in the area, making for a more intimate safari experience. This circuit usually includes the Selous Game Reserve - which is one of the largest faunal reserves of the world, the Ruaha National Park – Tanzania’s second largest park with incredible species diversity due to its unique location between hemispheres and the Saadani National Park, which is the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania that borders the sea. The southern circuit offers varied safaris such as boat trips, fly camping and walking safaris.

A Tanzania safari holiday can be combined with a few days on a beach at Zanzibar, which comprises the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean. The islands are situated 25-50 km off the coast of the mainland and provide the perfect destination to relax in after your busy few days on safari.
