India is a diverse country and having said that it should be clear that the diversity extends to the culture, heritage, languages spoken, clothes worn and also the geography. The snow-capped peaks in the northern most part of the country, rainiest place, the driest place and the long beaches are all a part of this country. In short this diversity presents the visitors with a great opportunity to enjoy and explore. As the places are many and time may not be sufficient it is better to have a brief idea about the places that are the top-most in the list and are the must-see places.
Taj Mahal
The tourist destinations are led by Taj Mahal in Agra. As history goes it is a mausoleum built by Shah Jahan and is a tribute to his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It has been enlisted as the New Seven Wonders of the World and is one of the three World Heritage Sites in Agra. It is a beautiful and a fascinating monument displaying perfect symmetry and is set amidst enchanting landscape. Jaipur
Jaipur, also called as Pink City is the capital of Rajasthan. It is renowned for tourism and education in India. Jaipur has a lot of forts and monuments which speak volumes of its glorious past. These include Central Museum, City palace, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Amber Fort, Jaigarh fort etc.
Kashmir
Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places on earth and in spite of the political turmoil it still is an attraction for the tourists. The Jhelum Valley (Kashmir), the Indus valley (Ladakh and frontier areas) and the Outer Himalayas (Jammu) has many picturesque places. The native cuisine and the teas are one of the best. The houseboats of Srinagar are unique. The local carpets and textile have great value. The Dal Lake, Mughal gardens and the Jammu mosque is a must see for all.
Goa
Goa is well-known for its beaches and it attracts tourists from all over the world during summer and winter. The foreign tourists enjoy the beaches during winter and the tourists from all over India have fun at the beaches during summer. The relaxed life style is soothing after hectic times.
Kanyakumari
It is on the southern most tip of India.This place presents the visitors with the rare opportunity of watching the sunset and moonrise at the same time. This can be enjoyed on full-moon evenings. This is place where the waters of Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean meet.
Kerala
Popularly called God’s own country, Kerala is famous for spices and beautiful surroundings. A visit to the tea plantations around the serene hills of Munnar, trekking to Anaimudi, paragliding and hiking are a few of the adventure activities that can be enjoyed in Kerala. Tourist attractions include visit to Rajamalai National Park, trip to Tea gardens and Kolukkumalai tea estate.
Mysore
Mysore, located in Karnataka is a hotspot for tourists during the Dussera festival when festivities last for about ten days. Ambavilas Palace also called Mysore Palace or Maharajah’s palace is the center for the Dasara festival. The kings of Wodeyar dynasty reside in this palace. The other places of interest include Somnathpur temples and Mysore Zoo.
Ajanta and Ellora
Ajanta and Ellora, located in Aurangabad district in Maharashtra is well-known for the sculptures and paintings which are masterpieces of Buddhist religious art and universal pictorial art. They are enlisted as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. These are rock-cut cave monuments about 28 to 30 in number, created during first century BC and the fifth century AD. These are a treat to the eyes of art-lovers.
Darjeeling
Darjeeling is flocked by tourists during summers and they are left enchanted by the natural beauty, fresh mountain air and the cheerful local people. The vast tea plantations present a beautiful site for the tourists. The Rising of the Sun is something to be witnessed in Darjeeling.
The entire country is dotted with many places of tourist interest and probably every state has something special for the visitor. The tourists can never have enough of this country.travel India
