The complete form of HDCP is High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. This is a recent version of the Digital Rights Management (DRM) which was initially figured out in order to manage the contents of the digital audio and video.

This technology was a creation of the company Intel and the sole aim was to control the contents' quality that is delivered through the devices as a video or audio file. HDCP looks after the fact whether the content is designed according to the guiding principles decided by the Digital Content Protection group. In order to employ HDCP you will require a compatible device.

How to find a HDCP compatible device?

Before you come to the conclusion that a device is a HDCP compatible device, make sure that it has an authentic license from the company Digital Content Protection group which is a subsidiary of the Intel group, the makers of this technology.

This group has set up certain rules and regulations for the contents and in order to get the license from them the devices need to pass through a test that certifies that there is no violation of these rules. Moreover the makers ...
... of these HDCP devices have to pay some charges for getting this license which is equivalent to buying the rights that are preserved with Intel.

In case there is any sort of violation of the rules are recognized, they will be either penalized or the playing of digital video on that particular device will be banned. There are other restrictions apart from the basic rules. The devices that are compatible for HDCP will not be allowed to contain any design that can smartly bypass the rules as well as they can not copy whatever digital video content they play.

Which are the HDCP compatible devices?

There are many people who often plan to watch the high definition videos and movies with those devices which are not certifies or supported by the technology. This is the reason why they do not get the right or desired quality of picture which is available with the compatible devices.

It can be the same case if you are using a computer to play the digital audio and video which does not have any certification from Intel. The two of the most popular licensed devices meant for viewing the downloaded files with HDCP encryption are Blu-Ray discs and HD-DVDs. You can also use some of the certified graphics cards in your computer to view these digital videos.
