Seo Ideas
1. Metatag Keywords
Keywords are what you use to describe your website and what you do.
So if you were selling jewellery, for example, you might have ones like `jewelry, jewellery, costume jewelry, costume jewellery, [note the UK and USA spelling] jewelry store, fine jewelry` aaaaaaand so on. I felt like Forrest Gump`s mate Bubba talking about ways of cooking shrimp there for a second.
Try to think of what it is you are *doing* when you come up with your keywords, what *needs* you are fulfilling. Don`t be too literal-minded.
So if you are selling products like jewellery, for example, don`t just go for the obvious. Think of word combinations like `beautiful anniversary presents`. And don`t forget to back this up by talking about `beautiful anniversary presents` in the copy you use for the site, as much as you can.
You shouldn`t feel, however, that you have to include every single keyword in your text. Take it easy.
NOTE: Don`t use the same word more than six times in your list of keywords. If you do, you run the risk of search engines thinking you`re `keyword stuffing` and your listing ...
... with them will suffer accordingly.
2. Revisit-After
The revisit tag is how you tell the search engine software (commonly known as `spiders`) to return to your site.
Why do you want them to return? It`s so that any content you`ve changed since they visited you the last time is indexed and noted.
You want all the good SEO stuff you`ve been fiddling with on the site to get noticed, right? If you update or change the content of your site regularly, this one is a no-brainer.
This is how you tell the spider to return after a week:
NOTE: I`ve used rounded brackets `()`for the below code, so that this webpage and its HTML code won`t get confused. Make sure when you do your own code that you use the angular brackets ``.
(META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="1 WEEK")
You can, of course, adjust the time frame to suit how often you think you`ll be updating.
Stick that code up in the section of your website page and you`re set.
3. Title Text
If your website has internal links (meaning, links that point to other parts of your site), you should be using title text.
Here`s an example of an internal link you might have. Let`s say you have the word `newsletter` on your homepage and want it to link to a page on your site that talks about the copywriting work you`ve done on newsletters. Here`s the link without title text:
NOTE: I`ve used rounded brackets `()`for the below code, so that this webpage and its HTML code won`t get confused. Make sure when you do your own code that you use the angular brackets ``.
Example A: (a href="http:// YOUR SITE URL HERE /copywriting-newsletter.html")Newsletter(/a)
And now here`s the same link with added title text:
NOTE: I`ve used rounded brackets `()`for the below code, so that this webpage and its HTML code won`t get confused. Make sure when you do your own code that you use the angular brackets ``.
Example B: (a href="http:// YOUR SITE URL HERE /copywriting-newsletter.html" title="Newsletter Copywriting")Newsletter(/a)
What`s the difference between the two? To the user, not a lot. When the user runs their mouse over the word `Newsletter` in Example A, nothing will happen. When they do the same with Example B, however, they`ll see a little box hover over the word that says `Newsletter Copywriting`. So it gives the user a bit more information about what they`re clicking through to.
Search engine spiders, on the other hand, *love* sites that have content. They`ll see this as one example of you using `Newsletter` (just an example; you, of course, choose which links you want to focus on for your SEO), and one example of `Newsletter Copywriting`, which. Two for the price of one, you might say. It will also make the spider`s job easier, because it`ll give it some information about what sort of content it can expect to find when it looks at the page being linked to.
4. ALT Text
This one`s similar to the Title Text advice above.
When you put an image on your site, make sure to include text that describes what you`re looking at or gives information to the search engines that you want them to see.
Here`s an example of how you might display your logo on your website:
NOTE: I`ve used rounded brackets `()`for the below code, so that this webpage and its HTML code won`t get confused. Make sure when you do your own code that you use the angular brackets ``.
(img src="YOUR SITE URL HERE/GIFs/YourLogo.gif" title="YOUR KEYWORDS HERE" alt="YOUR KEYWORDS HERE" width="340" height="105" )
You`ll note the `title` code I have there, as well as ‘alt="YOUR KEYWORDS HERE"‘. This is yet another indicator to the search engines that regularly index the site that tells them who you are and what you do.
It`s a small thing and won`t automatically give your site a quantum leap to first place in Google`s SERPs, but will help.
So what are you waiting for?!
