Amarnath Yatra - An Adventurous And Fulfilling Experience
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the famous Amarnath Temple is located in Jammu and Kashmir. Inside the main Amarnath cave, every year, an Ice Shiva Linga forms along with two other ice formations, depicting Maa Parvati and Shree Ganesh.
The Amarnath Yatra is an annual pilgrimage undertaken by thousands of devotees who travel across the challenging mountainous terrain to the Amarnath Temple.
There are numerous Amarnath packages available.
1. Amarnath Yatra –via Pahalgam
The first day of the trip can be spent at Srinagar, either at a hotel or houseboat based on your choice. On the second day, local sight-seeing is arranged in Srinagar. On the third day, you will be taken by car or coach to Pahalgam, which lies 110 km from Srinagar.
An overnight stay is arranged at a hotel in Pahalgam. After an early breakfast at Pahalgam, tourists are taken to Chandanwari by car. This is followed by an immediate trek to Sheshnag, which is a ...
... 12 km trek. Pack ponies, Palakis and helpers will be available to carry passengers and their luggage. Tourists are made to stay in tents for the night.
On the morning of the fifth day, you’ll have to start early for a steep ascent to Mahagunas and an easy descent to Panchtarni (approx 14 km trek). On the morning of sixth day, after an early breakfast, you’ll have to trek 6 km to reach the Amarnath Caves. Once you finish the holy darshan, you can proceed to Baltal, which is a 3-4 hour walk. You’ll need to spend the night again in tents.
On the seventh day from Baltal, tourists are given a ride to Sonmarg, and from Sonmarg to Srinagar (around 113 km drive). You can then experience staying in a houseboat at Srinagar. From Srinagar, you can proceed for the onward journey.
2. Amarnath Yatra - via Baltal
After spending a night and a day of local sight-seeing at Srinagar, you can proceed to Baltal by road via Sonmarg (Approx 113 km). Stay for tourists is arranged through tents in Baltal. The next morning, you can proceed to the Amarnath caves for a quick darshan and return back to Baltal and spend the night in your assigned tent. The next day, you can return back to Srinagar via Sonmarg.
3. Amarnath Yatra: Helicopter Services
In this package, you can spend one night at Srinagar and drive from Srinagar to Baltal via Sonmarg. Helicopter services are available from Baltal to Amarnath. The helicopter services are from 6.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. only. Once you finish the darshan, you can return to Baltal. From Baltal, you can proceed back to Srinagar via Sonmarg.
