It may a simple oversight or the renter may not see the necessity for any type of insurance coverage for their valuables. The lack of protection against loss of our personal possessions is not advisable for this day and age. A landlord does not usually mention insurance or offer to insure the renter's personal possessions. Consequently, the renter is responsible for any insurance coverage on valuables.

Renter's insurance will function in basically the same way that homeowner's insurance does, because the main protection is for the personal possessions of the renter against loss due to damage or theft. If you are not familiar with renter's insurance, you need to find out which insurance agencies offer renter's insurance policies and what kind of protection they include.

All of the policyholder's personal property can be protected by policies that offer different levels of coverage. These items may include furniture, clothing, appliances, electronics, or personal items such as jewelry. Included in the coverage is protection against losses caused by vandalism, fire, theft, or a natural disaster. There ...
... is compensation that will be awarded in any of these situations. There is protection for other people who accidentally are injured while they are on the rental property.

There are four main types of renter's insurance coverage to be familiar with; personal property coverage, personal liability coverage, improvements coverage, and fire legal liability coverage. Comprehensive coverage can be found to provide needed protection in other areas, but this added coverage will cost more in the premiums charged.

Personal property coverage will focus its main area of protection on your personal possessions. If any of your personal items is damaged or stolen, you can file a claim for compensation on your loss. Compensation will be based on a percentage of the total estimated value of the articles lost. The renter is responsible for adding the reported value of his possessions to an itemized list that the insurance provider will keep.

Personal liability coverage is very important to the renter and anyone who may visit the premises. You will not be held liable for injuries if a person is visiting you and sustains an injury on your property. You will not be responsible for the legal or medical costs. With these types of policies there is about $100,000 of protection.

Improvements coverage will provide the funds to repair or make improvements in a rental property. A renter will be protected from lawsuits when the property is damaged on the rental property.

Fire legal liability offers protection against legal liability in case there is a fire on the premises, so the owner of the property cannot hold the renter responsible or liable for damages caused by the fire.

There is not one particular type of renter's insurance that is best for every renting circumstance. There is a definite advantage to being protected against liability when you consider all the possibilities of damage or loss or injury. If renter's insurance is something you can afford, it is a wise investment to make.
