Each kind of advertisement is going to have its own unique styling. Furthermore, the best way to get ideas for what you want to do with your design is by taking a look at what others are doing. Now, you can always just walk out your door in order to find some good examples of whatever type of color printing you're trying to get ideas for, but with the convenience of internet searches, looking at a website allows you to see side by side examples of various formats.

To illustrate my point I'm going to focus on color posters, and the website www.bj2design.com.

The reason why I chose this particular website was because of the variety of unusual designs they have grouped together. None of them necessarily fit the standard mold for a large format poster that you're likely to see advertising a sale. After all, those kinds of posters can often be the easiest to design, given that your message is direct and brief.

But what if you need a quality poster detailing something more abstract like just your company, or an upcoming event your hosting? What if you want to do something ...
... more than just provide people with information?

That's where some of these distinctive designs come in. Take the first poster on the page in the top left corner. Advertising an upcoming sports game, rather than show an actual photo of the players, or just the basic information, they have a stylized image of the players being instructed by their coach.

The basic information you need is still easily available directly below the image, the white on black nature of the words allowing you to read them with ease after having your eye drawn by the picture.

But this is still a fairly standard poster, so let's move onto the less traditional styles.

A little ways down the page is a poster for a Volunteer service. This poster only has two major aspects to it, the image on the top half and the text on the bottom. The picture directly connects with the larger word Volunteer easily visible. In the picture a white blank in the shape of a person is helping a child, with the implication that this could be you if you chose to volunteer. While the elements are simple, by altering the photo a strong connection is drawn between the eye-catching image and the words directly below it.

Now, just a little further down the page comes a completely different type of poster for the Moruya River of Art. Unlike the previous two I mentioned this one takes considerably more elements to create. It combines the feel of photo poster printing with a more artistic take by surrounding the image with varying colors. Multiple pieces of information are spread across the image, all of it short enough that you can easily take it in after only a few seconds of staring.

And these are but three in a long list of posters presented. Each one has its own charm, and none of them would work for every type of event. Take a moment to look over all of them, and get some ideas for your own posters. You just might find something you love that you would've never thought of on your own.
