Teaching school age children how to read can be quite a difficult task. Many teachers believe that they are unable to successfully teach all their students how to read due to class sizes. In this day and age many classrooms are packed beyond capacity. This can make it quite difficult for a teacher to provide each of their students with the one-on-one time that many of them need in order to advance.

The truth is that all students advance at different rates. Some students easily learn how to read with what seems to be little effort. Others struggle throughout the process and need a little more attention. The problem is that most teachers are forced to put these students off on their parents and to provide them with extra work. That way their parents can work with them at home to advance their reading and comprehension skills.

However, it should also be noted that not all new methods of teaching and generating positive reading outcomes will work with your particular students.

As a teacher it is your job to know how your students are responding to your teaching. If your students are not advancing at a stage that they should be, then you must carefully consider if your teaching style is to blame. Or you may instead determine that perhaps the lesson plans that you are making use of are not effective for the majority of this particular batch of students that you have on hand. When this happens you can’t expect your students to change. Instead you must evolve and seek out new teaching material that will have a positive impact on your students.

The good news is that with the conception of the internet it has never been easier for teachers to acquire excellent teaching materials and ideas. You can easily connect with other teachers and experts in the field of education to learn what techniques and plans they use in order to successfully teach their students to read. You simply need to be willing to take these ideas into consideration.

Changing your teaching habits may not be a easy or even a welcome idea, but if your students are simply not progressing then you have to consider that you may be at fault and make changes accordingly.
