The Color Of Perfection

How many advertisements do you see without any color on them? You'd be rather hard pressed to find an entirely black and white ad, other than perhaps flyers, and even then you'll likely see at least some kind of colors added for that additional flare.
Color printing beats regular printing every time for a reason, because the colors you use in your advertising are going to have a big impact on the final product. What good is a brochure if it doesn't have the flare and visuals to get someone interested in looking at it?
Open up a magazine and what do you find: page after page of vibrant, lush color schemes. It doesn't matter what kind of advertisement it is or what the product the company is trying to promote. Those colors will still be prominent.
And don't let the ads with few colors fool you into thinking that they're getting by without them. Often an ad that is primarily black and white in a magazine is done that way on purpose in order to stand out among the others, but if you really take a good look at that ad, the tone of the black and shades of gray are still ...
... carefully chosen in order to achieve the best visual affect.
Take a look at the advertisements you're creating. It doesn't matter what style they are, because each form will need to be eye-catching if you want anyone to read them. Some forms of advertising are going to be more obvious when it comes to the need for great coloring. A poster just wouldn't be the same if it didn't have the bright, well-crafted colors to leap off the wall.
Postcards need to be able to attract a person's eye through the clutter of mail they'll be sorting through. Only a great assortment of colors, whether it's from a logo or a picture doesn't matter, so long as the aesthetics are appealing.
Advertising needs to accomplish two things: attract someone enough to get them to read it, and provide them with enough information to make them interested in purchasing something. Only color printing is going to achieve the first of those two, because people like to see colorful images.
Take a moment to pick out all of the advertisements you like the best. It doesn't matter what form, just ask yourself what appeals to you, and then take the time to really look at the visuals they contain. What kind of colors are they using? What made them so perfect for the ad?
Combining certain colors with a theme will also help to not only attract people but also add to the message. An advertisement dealing with environmentally friendly products are going to have a strong green motif, just as winter sales will likely have white and blue, and summer sales will have red and orange.
If you haven't been paying attention to your colors already, not is the time to start.
