Youth-oriented Acting Classes: Los Angeles
If you're a Los Angeles parent whose child or teen has shown an interest in acting school, Los Angeles is probably the best place you could possibly be. Depending on the degree to which your son or daughter wants to learn about acting, you have a number of different options available to you. First and foremost, you need to make sure that it's your child's decision to do this, and that it is not something you simply wish for them to do. If they are still quite young, the focus on acting should be lighthearted and fun: it should be seen as an engaging, educational activity. For older teens, they may look at acting more as a career possibility or something they'd like to study more intensively. Either way, make sure the reason your kids are enrolling in acting classes is because they want to do it and not because of some external pressure. Parents are there to nurture and support the concept, and should never push it down their children's throats. When it comes to acting schools, Los Angeles is a veritable fruit stand. For young kids and teens, however, I highly recommend Young Actor's Studio.
Whether your kid is ...
... looking for a little summer fun or they have aspirations that include a Broadway stage or a Hollywood big screen, Young Actor's Studio can accommodate their needs and goals. Whenever any of my friends mention having kids that are curious about acting, that often leads to them inquiring about good acting classes. Los Angeles is full of options, but this particular school has had a lot of success with teens and young adults. They teach adults and kids as young as 4-6 years old, as well. The studio provides year-round workshops and classes, some of which include theater and production study, the "younger" young actor's studio, acting technique, adult acting class, intensive summer performance and acting on camera. There are age specifications for each class, and varying degrees of skill and difficulty. I always remind my friends that summer sessions are the busiest for youth, so be sure to register early.
The younger ones (aged 4-6) get to have a lot of fun learning the magic that only the theater possesses, discovering acting through improv, storytelling, fairy tales and animal exercises. They learn to express themselves using movement and voice, which builds self esteem and communication skills. When teens attend acting schools, Los Angeles based or not, they get to explore newly realized qualities and talents in themselves. Some of the skills the young adults will focus on at Young Actor's Studio are learning to act with all 5 senses; sensory recall, place work, and past circumstances; the technicalities of working on camera; showcasing wants and objectives in acting; how to use your own unique qualities to act; gaining freedom in front of the camera; and what it takes to produce a show from beginning to end.
If your kids are ready for acting school, or just some acting classes, Los Angeles' own Young Actor's Studio has an array of options for children and adults of all ages. The school's track record and the satisfaction of its students should speak for itself. It's a great place to get kids started on the path to their dreams, or simply let them have a little fun. For adults, acting workshops can help you cultivate a talent or interest you may have developed later on in life--or maybe you've had it all along! If you are serious about a career in acting, you will get out of the experience whatever you put in. Just ask one of the instructors at the school about the now accomplished actors and performers that once attended classes right here at this studio.
