Cape Town 4x4 Trails
Do you have the passion for adventure? With your 4x4, you too can travel new paths and untried roads. Take pleasure in 4x4 trails around Cape Town, exploring and experiencing the great outdoors.
The Boegoeberg trail is a picturesque route that features panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and the Cedarberg Mountains, set high in the ‘Engelsman-se-berg' on the Lambertshoek Farm. This trail offers many challenges that range from sudden inclines and plunging descents to trails which involve a high degree of technical driving skills. The level of difficulty varies greatly depending on what time of year the trail is traversed. All your driving skills will be tested but this is still a safe trail and no damage will come to your 4x4. There is a guesthouse and farm nearby so accommodation and provisions are readily available. The The Boegoeberg trail is truly a breath-taking trail for a weekend getaway.
Further away from Cape Town is the Klein Tafelberg trail. Situated in the Sandveld between the towns of Redelinghuys and Araura, this picturesque and exhilarating 4x4 trail winds along sandy slopes covered in ...
... the local fynbos and is well known for its glorious views. Spend the evening camping under the"Klein Tafelberg" where the stillness of the Sandveld nights will bring peace to your soul. This 4x4 trail includes plenty of sand driving but covers a stunning mountain path offering a varity of challenges to drivers of all experience levels.
For the full experience of both nature and wildlife, the Karoo National Park can't be beat. Two different trails are available for the avid 4x4 explorer and they all boast an eye-catching mix of local flora, the Big Five and birds of every colour. The first trail is a fairly short at 20km, only taking 2 to 3 hours at maximum. For the day to overnight trail though, the route is approximately 85km long and takes upwards of 8 to 10 hours to complete. Nevertheless, both trails offer a fantastic game opportunity to view the local wildlife South Africa is famous for. The dense vegetation in the Karoo Park provides shelter for a diversity of species such as kudu, duiker and the aardvark who make their burrows in river banks. Many species of bird are also provided natural protection due to this abundant undergrowth. There is opportunity even to see the great Black Rhino, one of the rarest animals in the park.
Always make sure that the 4x4 your use on the trail is both road-safe and a pleasure to drive. There are many 4x4 trails in Cape Town but the fun really begins when you are on the open road, driving the trail of your dreams and experiencing nature with no boundaries.
