5 Elements In A Quality Business Email List
There are a few things to look for when evaluating if an email list is right for you and your business. Some may seem like common sense, but you would be surprised how often these types of checks and balances are not employed.
First of all, make sure the targeted email list is appropriate for your business stream. For example, if you are looking for a list of attorneys or law-related businesses, make sure that is actually what is contained in the list. The list would be completely useless to you if it was comprised of yoga studios and day spas.
Secondly, there are a few helpful ways to make sure the businesses on the list are in accordance with what you are looking for. For example, the company names should make logical sense to be on the list. And further, if there are not company names indicated on a list that is claiming to be a “business list,” that is a major red flag. You can also evaluate the nature of the businesses by looking at the SIC or NAICS code. An NAICS code is a number associated with the North American Industry Classification System, which is primarily used for data analysis purposes. NAICS ...
... was developed to replace the old SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) system. A company’s NAICS code is based on the business’ primary activity, or the activity that generates the most revenue.
Third, make sure the companies on the list are geographically appropriate. For example, if you are looking to reach companies located in the southeastern portion of the United States, it does not make sense to use a list of companies located in Oregon and North Dakota.
Fourth, if there are phone numbers included on the list, call one. Double check a few and see if the information on the list is up to date. Do a little investigative work on the frontend before you invest a lot of time on the backend soliciting businesses with information that is not current.
And fifth, give a little scrutiny to the email addresses listed. For example, many businesses have their own email domain name associated with their business webpage. It is a little suspect if most of the email addresses listed on a business list are associated with free email providers such as gmail and hotmail.
While not all of the above when taken alone indicate that there is something wrong with your list, these are just suggestions of things to keep in mind. By asking questions and using some common sense, you are much more likely to get a list that is useful and advantageous for your company.
