The Enchanting Town Of Leh - A Look At How To Get There
Leh is a firm favourite for both adventure freaks and cultural enthusiasts. The landscape, stars, lakes, sky, and the Ladakhi people seldom fail to surprise or pique the interest of tourists. The region is bound by the Great Himalayas and the Karakoram range.
It is an amazing place to visit, especially after the onset of the summer season. With routes converging to Leh from all four directions, it has a rich trade history. Mountains that touch the sky, the slow chanting of Buddhist monks, sparkling glaciers, and a variety of festivals, make Leh a prime tourist destination.
Leh is located on the western side of Ladakh. The route from Leh to Ladakh is often taken and the path is well connected. To reach Leh by road, you can either take the public buses or drive on the Srinagar-Leh road. The Srinagar-Leh road covers the distance between the towns, 434 km approximately. But this road is open only from June to November.
The buses in this route operate on fixed schedules and have an overnight stop at Kargil for acclimatization. ...
... Both regular and deluxe buses will be available. Taxis and jeeps will also be available.
The Manali To Leh Highway
Another route to Ladakh is through the Manali-Leh highway, which connects Manali to Leh through the Rohtang Pass. But this is open only for about four months in the summer, as the snowfall blocks the high passes starting from October.
The journey usually takes two days, but due to bad stretches of roads, glacial melting, snow crossing, and land slides, the travel time is always unpredictable. The average elevation being 4000 m, the low air pressure makes some travellers experience altitude sickness - nausea, headache, and vomiting. One way to avoid this would be to stay at the starting point, Manali, for a night for acclimatization.
It is best to carry glucose, chocolate, lime, or other energy foods during this journey.
The Delhi To Leh Route
Delhi and Leh are well connected by road and airways. The distance from Leh to Delhi by road is 1047 km, which will take at least three to four days. So it is quite a difficult journey, but an experience you will cherish for life. The ride offers a lot of scenic beauties along the way, which you will seldom be able to resist. There are also buses operating between these two points.
Ladakh features a cold desert climate. The winters are harsh and are sometimes accompanied by snowfall. The best time to tour Leh would be during the summer, which lasts from May to July.
