Pricing is an essential part of selling. In fact it could be said to be the most important part of all. Sell something too cheaply and you won’t make a profit. Sell something at too high a price and you won’t sell enough; you may even drive your customers to your competition.

Of course this isn’t the only part of pricing you need to think about. You also need to consider whether you are displaying your prices clearly enough. Here is an example that will illustrate just how important this is. Let’s say you identify a product that you want to sell at a discount for a limited period of time. If you decide you will sell it at 20% off the normal price, what would you do? Would you put it on the shelf with no pricing and hope that people would find it and ask about it? If you did it this way you wouldn’t make too many sales.

But supposing you used wobblers to direct people’s attention to the product and the reduced price. You could well expect to sell far more of the item, thus creating a successful sale line in the process.

You can see how important it is to make sure you have ...
... proper pricing all around your shop, no matter what it might be that you sell. If you price everything properly and clearly, you stand a chance of selling more as a result. Sometimes people will leave items without a price in the hope that customers will come up and ask how much they are. This can work but it is unlikely that someone will bother to ask the price if you are busy and unable to answer their question. As you can see, trying to engage in a conversation with the customer in this way is not the best way to go.

The best thing to do if you are unsure about whether you are currently pricing everything as best you can is to look around your shop to see how clear the pricing is. If you feel it is lacking in some aspects, make sure you buy items such as wobblers and other pricing supplies to enable you to set up the best way of presenting your items to the customer. You can even monitor your sales before and after the process, to see whether it is working or not. If you don’t get the results you want, simply adjust your pricing displays to see whether a small tweak can help. It quite often will.

So whatever you might be trying to sell and whatever price point you are selling your items at, make sure you make the most of the right tools to help you boost your profits.
