India is a land of wonder and its penchant for all things bright, colorful and lively is well known. It is a land of rich flavors and eye popping grandeur. Much of it is lost today, either due to the rapid decline of the erstwhile aristocratic houses or due to globalization. But glimpses of the past can still be seen in the heritage hotels in India. They really uphold the traditions and cultural norms and anything else that has always been associated with India.

The heritage hotels in India are are not just extravagantly designed buildings. They are in reality the forts and palaces of the rulers who have ruled over the country for decades. India was a land of rich architecture and splendid designing and all of it is reflected in the palaces. As time went by, the dynasties survived, but they were unable to hold on to the grandiloquent way of living. With their declining funds, they were unable to maintain the magnificent palaces, which were their homes. In such circumstances, they had to sell of portions and wings of the palaces to modern corporate houses. They ...
... not only renovated the palaces as and when required, but made them a destination where true Indian hospitality could be experienced, in all its glory.

As you enter these hotels, you will be awed. You will have sparkling chandeliers lighting your way. Your bed will be a sea of golden and silver embroidery instead of plain white bedding. Curtains of silk and satin will hang around the four poster beds like clouds. When you look out of the windows, glorious vistas are going to greet you every morning and evening. And in the process you will know so much about the rich way of living in this country. You will be dining on silver and golden cutlery and nothing less than what the kings and queens feasted on. You are bound to feel that you are a royal yourself and each and every need will be provided for. All that you see will leave you astounded with its exquisite craftsmanship.

Staying in these heritage hotels is no doubt expensive. But then, it is really worth it. You will be transported to the era gone by, about which we have only read in our history books. And you will be left asking for more, and will be already planning your next stay here, even before you leave.
