Pittsburgh Plumbing Is Best Fixed By Native Pittsburgh Plumbers
If you are looking for a plumber Pittsburgh natives are the best for Pittsburgh plumbing, which offers some challenges that only Pittsburgh plumbers are ready for.
Pittsburgh is a unique city. It has been ranked as the most livable city in the country three times by Places Rated Almanac; no other city has received that honor more than once. The city is over 250 years old, and has more history, successes, and accolades than most people would probably imagine. A book came out in 2009 called Pittsburgh, the Greatest City in the World, which lists hundreds of facts, ranks, and statistics that prove what a great city Pittsburgh is, and the sports teams are only a small part of the picture. Two of the great traditions in Pittsburgh are its architecture and its craftsmanship, which are, of course, related. They used to call Pittsburgh “The workshop of the world” because of the great traditions of invention, craftsmanship, and industry coming out of the Steel City. While the steel mills have mostly closed, that old idea of superior craftsmanship is still very much alive and well in the Greatest City in the World (certainly ...
... the greatest mid-sized city, at the very least). Many people find that the craftspeople of today’s Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh plumbers, contractors, electricians, steel workers, mechanics, etc. have a sense of pride, tradition, honor, and dedication that is lacking in other cities.
Pittsburgh has some of the most unique architecture of any American city. If you think of Pittsburgh in terms of the greater Pittsburgh area, that would include Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Falling Water,” which has been declared the greatest piece of American architecture by several prestigious sources. In the city, you have the County Courthouse, Cathedral of Learning, and PPG Place as well, but those are only the public buildings. Pittsburgh is also filled with beautiful homes that range from the charming to the magnificent, many of them over a century old. This means that Pittsburgh plumbing is going to be a bit different from plumbing in other, newer cities that have newer and more standardized construction. With the age of Pittsburgh buildings, a plumber never quite knows for sure what he is walking into – ancient copper plumbing, decayed materials, brand new plastic hardware, botched repairs by owners or previous plumbers. Pittsburgh plumbers have really earned my respect because they have to be ready to handle anything, and they are.
In addition to the actual duties of a plumber Pittsburgh plumbers sometimes have special challenges just getting to the job! Icy Pittsburgh winters can make it almost impossible to get anywhere, and the hills in Pittsburgh are legendary. The city has the largest number of bridges of any city in the world, and it also has some of the steepest streets, including the very steepest street in the world, which is in the Beechview neighborhood. Cops, firefighters, EMT’s and other emergency personnel deserve all the credit in the world for just showing up and doing their jobs, but service people like plumbers and heating specialists who have to go to people’s homes, sliding around on icy, steep streets to make sure that people (especially children and the elderly) have water and heat deserve some credit for bravery as well.
My main point in this particular article is that I urge Pittsburghers to shop around for a plumber who is a Pittsburgh native, preferably someone who apprenticed in a family plumbing business. These guys are the best. They grew up in the business, they know every street and alley, they have seen it all, done it all, and they have a sense of integrity and kinship with the people of the city. Don’t worry about them being behind the times. Although these plumbers train in an old type of tradition, part of any real craftsman’s tradition is staying abreast of technology and new methods. They will bring you the latest, greatest solutions for anything, but with that old-world honor and service. It’s a good idea to have a plumber set up before you need one. Call around and ask open-ended questions about the person’s background – where they are from, how long in business, is it a family business, etc. Get a good, old-fashioned Burgh boy or girl to take care of you, and you won’t be disappointed.
