A ground investigation is important prior to exercising constructional visions on it. Site or ground investigation is the responsibility of a geologist who has the responsibility of taking all the factors concerned in determining the quality of soil, water table, historical data and legal issues to come to a conclusion whether the site is right for construction.

Ground Investigations: Issues taken into consideration

Quality of Soil

Ground means soil and therefore determining the quality of the soil is very much important. For this, a geologist has to consider any growth of vegetation on the site. If yes, then the kind of fertilizers or chemicals used on it or the kind of contamination created to its ground.

Ground investigation involves taking into consideration dumping aspects on its surface. If the site or ground is in close proximity to an industry, then dumping of waste and sewage is a common thing. It is not just the condition of the ground that matters, but also the environmental degradation caused by the grounds.

Water Table ...
...

On any given ground, there is proper water table. This shows the exact top level till which water rises. Any ground with a huge pit attracts more water, thus leading to water logging. Therefore, the drainage system and designing foundations are to be taken into consideration for constructional purposes.

Historical data

The next thing to consider is historical data. This means, checking all kinds of activities that have taken place near or on the site. Search for information from the local residents who will be able to suggest whether the site is good or not. Whether the land was used for residential purposes or was it used for agriculture. These are some of the questions, which you need to solve understanding history of the site.

Legal Issues

This is a very important aspect. A site where construction is to be carried ought to be free from any legal complexities. This will mean that the site is suitable for construction.

Thus, look into the aspects and determine ground investigations.
