For many people the front door to their house is not something they think about very often, even when they walk through it several times every single day. It is something that is just there; always has been and always will be; and as long as they remember to lock it when they leave, it is out of sight and out of mind. But for traditional wooden panel doors, which are still fitted on a large number of houses in the UK and around the world, there will come a time when maintenance becomes essential.

Old timber doors have an annoying habit of slipping, which means that they do not sit in their frames properly, which can cause a myriad of problems. The door may begin to let in draughts, which apart from making your house cold, can cause a lot of heat from your home to the outside world, which can waste a lot of money on your central heating bill if you do not fix it. A slipped wooden door can also stick when you are trying to open it; such a large timber is going to be very heavy, and therefore very difficult to open. This is an annoyance as much as anything, especially when you are walking through your door several times ...
... a day; but it can also make it very difficult to lock your door because it is not properly aligned with the frame, and therefore can begin to pose a security risk. Therefore sanding down and the like can become a regular occurrence, and it is definitely not an enjoyable way to spend a weekend.

For the house proud, it is also worth thinking about the aesthetics of a wooden door. Wind and rain erode wood in way that a UPVC plastic composite equivalent is immune to. Whilst it will take many lifetimes to destroy a wooden door completely, unless rot becomes a concern, wood can begin to look faded very quickly, and paint can start to peel. You may have to varnish or paint your door every single year, especially after the winter, which can really ruin a Saturday morning after a hard week at work. For this reason you might put it off for months.

With a composite door this kind of maintenance is not something you have to think about. They do not warp, bow or twist; and because of their plastic skin, they never need repainting or varnishing, meaning that you never have to spend time repairing your door again.

If you are looking to secure your home then composite doors are the perfect way to do this. To add another level of security to your home why not consider fire doors
