Wisdom teeth are also referred to as a third molars, they have been called "wisdom" due to the fact that they appear much later than the rest of the teeth, his instructors were known to give a lot of problems when they come out sideways or when they get impacted, as an average most people have four wisdom teeth or third molars, the absence of one or more is called hypodontia, when one or more are present the extra structures are referred to as supernumerary teeth.

Wisdom Teeth - A Rite of Passage?

Types of Impaction

-- A Distoangular impaction happens when the tooth is angled backwards and it only happens 6% of the time.

-- And finally a horizontal impaction only happens 3% of the time, this is very unlikely to happen to most people but when it does it means that the third molars have grown at a 90° angle towards their roots of the second molars.

Procedures After Extraction

After a wisdom teeth (or a set of wisdom teeth) has been extracted it is recommended not to rinse out the mouth this is the fact that this action dislogues the blood clots, promotes further bleeding and delays the healing process. Because of the amount of bacteria and blood that will be found in the socket left by the extraction of the wisdom teeth offensive odors are actually normal, they are also accompained by a foul taste in the mouth which began is caused by the mixture bacteria blood. Seven to 10 days after the extraction is recommended to visit the dentist once again in order to make sure that the socket is relatively clean and that no infection is present.
